For those who are not familiar with this lawsuit, let us explain a little. New York State’s recreational fishermen have been getting KILLED with un-justified and un-fair fishing regulations over the past few years. Fluke and Porgies are probably the most financially important fisheries in our area and two of the hardest hit by these ridiculous regulations.

Now, to make matters worse… New York wants to implement a SALTWATER FISHING LICENSE! To be honest, we (Causeway Bait and Tackle) are not necessarily against a license… IF THE MONEY IS APPROPRIATED CORRECTLY. But, from what we’ve heard so far the money from the license would go in to the “General Fund”…. a technical way of saying that the saltwater fishing community won’t benefit from ANY of that funding.

Two groups, in particular, have been spearheading the projects to persuade fisheries managers to improve the way these species are managed, making the regulations a little more relaxed and beneficial to all. The New York Fishing Tackle and Trade Association (NYFTTA) and the United Boatmen of New York (UBNY) have been the driving force behind the recreational fishing community and OUR HAT’S ARE OFF TO THESE FOLKS!
