Good news, things seem to be SLOWLY, but steadily, improving. It’s not great fishing yet but there have been more fish caught these past few days there have been in a number of weeks now. Sounds like it’s mostly bait fishing, fresh bunker, out front on the ocean beaches.

We’ve had a few reports of fish from Democrat Point, Gilgo and Field 6 but like we mentioned… it’s all on fresh Bunker. Not much coming from the plug casting people though. A few scattered reports from Point Lookout, Long Beach and West End 2 but it’s very hit and miss. What little we’ve heard about from the plugging crowds sounds like pencil poppers, little neck poppers and polaris style poppers at first light and again around sunset. White and Blue are the typical fall colors to use!!

Plenty of reports from people seeing tons of bait around the inlets though, peanut bunker, spearing and mullet have all been showing up but there hasn’t been anything chasing it yet.

Montauk continues to be the hot spot lately, although since this East wind started it sounds like even Montauk has slowed a bit… BUT… it’s still much better than the surf fishing in our area.

Our recommendation would still be to fish with fresh bunker in some of the more reliable places like Tobay, Gilgo and West End 2.

We have some ugly weather coming our way for the next few days and will probably put a damper on what little surf fishing we’ve had. However, weather like this, once it settles and clears out, could really get things going!! Let’s keep our fingers crossed!!!
