Locally, things are still a bit on the slow side but we ARE hearing of some schoolie sized fish here and there. I guess we could call it a slight improvement ove last week… but things have a way to go yet. We had a report this morning,  of a few fish caught over the weekend in Long Beach on plugs. There have also been a few small fish at West End 2… EARLY in the mornings but it’s been very hit or miss.

Not much going on at any of the ocean beaches, a Bluefish or small bass every here and there but that’s about it.

As we’ve been saying… best bet right now is probably casting… moving around from spot to spot or beach to beach and just cast. The fish have been so spread out you’ll have to try and stumble on a few. The only other suggestion would be fishing with bait, in a few of the more reliable places like West End 2, Democrat Point, Sore Thumb and Tobay. This is really just pot luck type fishing though, hoping to come across a stry fish.

MONTAUK however, lit up again this past weekend. We had a number of reports from people that were fishing the point this past weekend and CRUSHED the Bass. Sounds like a few Blues mixed in but it was mostly Bass in the 10 to 20 pound range. Sounds like it almost didn’t matter what lure you used, they bit them all! We also heard the mullet were on the beaches there too, so hopefully we’ll see those make their way WEST towards us!!

We’re still hearing of some good Weakfish action at Captree. One report in particular was from someone who caught 30 fish with 5 of them being keeper size!! The fish have been taking bucktails and an assortment of plastic baits like Bass Assasin’s and Fin-S Fish.

Hopefully some cooler weather later this week will get things going a bit.
