Striped Bass Report – Long Island South Shore – 8-11-08

August 11th, 2008

Wish we had some better news but to be perfectly honest… go Fluking! Typical of mid-summer, things have slowed to a crawl and the best bet for Bass this time of year will be at first light and just after dark.

We have heard of a few fish around all the bridges, some on clams / clam chumming, a few on fresh Bunker a few on eels and a few on lures but it’s hard to say what has been the most productive lately. The back bays will usually produce some smaller fish on poppers, plugs and bucktails and if you know the bay REALLY well, you may be able to pull out a bigger fish on a live bait… like an eel for example.

Other than that, the ocean has been quiet, with no reports of any Bunker schools and nothing but Bluefish on the troll.

Best bets right now? Probably clam chumming around high water either at a bridge or in the inlet or plugging in the back bays.

Fall is coming and once things cool off a little we should see some more activity.
