Striped Bass Report – Long Island South Shore – 5-2-09

May 2nd, 2009

Good News… fishing has been steadily improving all over the bay. There are fish in the back bays, the bridges and on the West Bar now. Sounds like Clam Chumming is the best way to go right now, although the Blues showed up in force too… so make sure you extra hooks with you!!

We had a few reports from the West Bar, with plenty of action on Clams and chum. From what we’ve heard, the front side (south side) of the bar… closest to the ocean, has been one of the more productive areas. We’re hearing of fish on both tides too…. Incoming AND outgoing.

There have also been reports of fish at the Big Meadowbrook bridge too. Clam Chumming on either tide seems to be pretty reliable now. Similar reports have been coming from the second and third Wantagh Bridges too. Basically all clam chumming and on either tide.

One last report we had from yesterday… clam chumming in Massapequa Cove are has picked up a bit too, so it sounds like the Bass have made their way through most of the bay.

If you’re not familiar with Clam Chumming, check out the “How To” article we put up on our Blog. It should be enough info to get you started and you can always stop in the store and we would be glad to help you.
