Striped Bass Report – FINALLY!!! 3-17-09

March 17th, 2009

Happy St. Patricks Day Everyone!!

GREAT NEWS! We’re starting to hear of a few Stripers being caught. Keep in mind though, the season doesn’t open till April 15th, so it’s catch and release ONLY for now.

The people that have caught a couple are pretty tight lipped about it, but at least the fish are starting to show up. Sounds like typical places like Little Neck Bay, Jamaica Bay, West End 2 and a few “spots” on the North Shore. This is about the time of year when we get the first few reports, so it’s time to start looking around. The Bunker almost always show up to the west first… like Jamaica Bay and the western parts of Long Island Sound.

We would recommend small plastic baits like Tsunami Swim Shads and Split Tail Minnows, small tins like the Charlie Graves and Bomber’s are always a good bet.

Bait might still be a little hard to come by but right now we have frozen clams in stock and we’re expecting our first delivery of Sandworms this Friday.

Sandowrms can be very effective on the North Shore in particular, so if you’re in a pinch… DON’T hesitate to try the Berkley Gulp! Sandworms… they work.

As we hear of more, we’ll post it.

Good luck and send us those reports and pictures!!

Hey… we CAN’T WAIT either….lol…. Winter is WAY too long! We can’t wait to get the freezers filled up again, get the fresh bunker coming everyday and get some smelly hands and clothes again!

Send us any reports you have, we would be happy to post them… especially if you get a few pictures!!
