Striped Bass Fishing Reports 6-21
June 22nd, 2010Striped Bass fishing is still good in our area. The ocean fishing continues to produce the bigger fish, but not as many as in the bay. Trolling West End bunker spoons, Fin Strike umbrella rigs and 9ERS Lures shad rigs has been pretty consistent, with more fish starting to “settle in ” between Jones and Fire Island inlets. There are still plenty of bunker both east and west of Jones inlet in the ocean. The key to this fishing this time of the year is time of day..meaning start fishing at day break or fish into the night. Snagging bunker is also a productive method but the bass are not always with the schools of bait. Try getting some bunker and motoring around the area until you read some “marks” on your electronics and fish them. A basic fishfinder rig or small egg sinker rig with a 8/0 or 9/0 Gamakatzu octopus hook on a 50 lb.flourocarbon leader will bo the trick. Dont hesitate to fish a bunker head or chunk in the same area.
Evidence of this fishing is on Sunday 6/20 when Bob Gabriel and Vinny Siano caught a couple of good sized Bass. Bob’s catch was 25lbs 3oz and Vinny’s was 34lbs 6oz. They were caught in the Tobay area on live bunker in 25′ of water at the Ebb Tide.
But they weren’t done yet…………
Bob and Vinny caught these MONSTER bass 6/22. These bass were caught on the South Shore and weighed 36lbs 7oz and 46lbs 4oz. Not too bad for two days of fishing!!
