Things are definitely looking up with slow and steady improvements every day. The past few days have been really good in the ocean on the schools of Bunker along the beaches to the east of our inlet. Sounds like there are bunker anywhere from the Jones Beach tower to Fire Island Inlet in 10 to as much as 40 feet of water. For those that found them, they put a few live ones in the well, drifted them along side the schools and put some REALLY nice fish in the boats! This has been a fairly reliable pattern for the past few years… finding the bunker and live-lining them, so be prepared… get a handful of snag hooks, some 6/0 or 7/0 Octopus hooks and don’t forget a few wire leaders too, the Blues have been mixed in there too!

Clam Chumming in the bays is slowly improving as well with some decent reports from the West Bar, the Big Meadowbrook and the Wantagh bridges too. Again, it has been better than the last week or so, but still not in full swing…. YET!

The plugging action sounds terrible, we have many customers who love to break out the light tackle and throw poppers and plastic baits around the marsh banks but according to most of them the action has been VERY slow. This should steadily improve now too, the water is cooling off… and the bait is on the move!

As far as live Eels…. not too much to report. A few fish here and there, mostly around the inlet area. We think it’s still a shade early for this fishing too but expect things to get better and better from here out.

With the season coming quick, for that live Eel fishing, we wanted to remind everyone that we have the Fin Strike “Pro Series” rigs that are tied with Gamakatsu hooks… IDEAL RIGS for this area!!
