Snapper Fishing Report – Long Island South Shore – 9-9-08
September 9th, 2008Fortunately that Snappers have been getting bigger and bigger and there is NO shortage of them! There are Snappers everywhere now and some of the better reports have been coming from Jones Beach Pier, the Point Lookout Pier, Wantagh Park and Seamans Neck Park.
Spearing and live Killies have been hard to beat for baits and make sure that you start using the long shank Snapper hooks now… they’re getting big enough to bite off the smaller hooks pretty easily.
For lures, Snapper Poppers, small Kastmaster’s, sidewinders and ANYTHING small and shiny have been getting the job done. Keep in mind… Snappers are NOT normally picky and will typically attack anything that resembles food!
Fishing around high tide is always a good idea and if you want to try something different, try chumming for them! Bunker Chum will definately attract them and as a kid I used to use “tuna flavored CAT FOOD” believe it or not!!

Why is the recent 4 reports about this, look exactly the same? Not being harsh, just asking.
We can see your point… however, fortunately the Snapper fishing really doesn’t change very much, which is a good thing, but to be perfectly honest, once the Snappers are in and big enough to bite, it’s a relatively sure thing. The fishing can, and does, VARY depending on conditions, but it typically doesn’t last very long. For example, if we get a hard blow for a few days or a mess of rain it may slow the bite down but as soon as things settle down… they’re right back on the feed. They can be caught on the same baits and on the same lures in the same spots… year after year. And historically, high tide is best in most of those areas.
We try to include some new info and we try to mix it up a little but Snapper fishing is typically pretty constant.
However…. we would LOVE to post any new spots or techniques from any of our users too… maybe with some user’s contributions we can ALL learn something new!!
Thanks for the comment!!
Do you think they are coming to Long Island soon?
The Snappers????
They are already here and have been for a number of weeks now…. this is PRIME TIME for Snapper fishing!
I been there for a day, and nothing has been biting. I’ll try it out this weekend.
So… did you get em????
