Snapper Fishing Report – Long Island South Shore – 9-3-08

September 3rd, 2008

Snapper fishing remains steady, with plenty of fish throughout the bay now. All the canals are holding Snappers, especially near high tide.

We have had a few recent reports from Wantagh Park, Norman Levy Park and from Jones Beach Piers… all with good results. Sounds like the Snappers are being caught on both bait and on lures.. just a matter of how you like to fish.

It’s been pretty hard to beat Spearing for bait but some people have had success with live killies too. For lures, Snapper Poppers are always a safe bet and the small Kastmaster’s and Sidewinders have been very reliable too.

Now that the Snappers are getting larger in size it’s probably a good idea to use the long shank Snapper Hooks to keep them from bniting your hooks off!!
