New York Snappers are Hungry
September 8th, 2009For those who remember the great 1989 flick “Field of Dreams” starring Kevin Costner, James Earl Jones and Ray Liotta, there was one famous line that came out of that movie, “if you build it, they will come.” Although this movie has little to do with Long Island Snapper Fishing, some of the same “voices” apply..
if you cast it, they will bite. The snapper fishing does not get any better than this. It is peak season for the Long Island snappers and as the reports we’ve received indicate, no matter where you fish, you will not be disappointed. All of the local docks are producing including Wantagh Park, Seamans Neck Park, Bellmore Town Dock, Jones Beach & Point Lookout docks.
On the Long Island Sound, the snapper fishing is the same. Any docks in Manhasset Bay, Hempstead Harbor, Little Neck Bay, Cold Spring Harbor are all producing well. There is no shortage of snappers around.
Your best bet bait or lure wise is something small and shiny. Spearing, sand worms and live killies will be your top producers for live bait.
