Northbar Plugs: Making a Splash
September 30th, 2009Northbar Bottledarters ($17.99 from Causewaybaitandtackle.com) have recently been added to our online fishing catalog. These extremely popular plugs have landed some nice fish as we’ve been hearing. Often referred to as a “darter on steroids,” these plugs have been making splashes all over the area. Keep reading for details on this gem.
We recently received our first large shipment of Northbar Plugs and they are the new hot thing for the fall run. Although their uses are somewhat limited, they are working wonders in those places where they can be used. Striped bass and bluefish are in love with this plug. Don’t miss out!
Northbar plugs are being called the “Montauk Plug” because the ocean terrain in Montauk, NY allows these plugs to stand out. These plugs can easily be described as darters on steroids. They dive deep and are best used with a painfully slow retreat. They dig into the current hard as well. With that being said, this is not your best best option when fishing along the surf.
These plugs are best suited and used where there is a lot of current and near the bridges. You can also use Northbars where the ocean bottom is rocky and drops off a bit. Remember, these plugs dive deeper and dig harder into the currents so make sure the water is deep enough.
A few weeks ago, an angler fishing in Orient, NY picked off a 63 pound striper using a Northbar Plug. This is one of the main reasons these things have been flying off the shelves. We offer the Northbar Plugs at a low price of $17.99. We currently stock 5 different color variations. These plugs are 7 1/4 inches long, weigh approximately 2.5 ounces and are made with VMC hooks.
