It is quite apparent that the Politicians and the DEC that represent the recreational fisherman are false characters and a total burden to the tax payers.Eliminate the N.Y.S DEC and save the us tha taxpayer money! They do not enforce the regulations they impose and numerous states along the Eastern seaboard do not suffer this fishing ban.The 1 mile limit for draggers around the inlets went unchecked their quotas went unchecked and their size limits well that is a different story.I have seen this farce orginization called the D.E.C do nothing against the trawlers for the unecessary slaughter of fish.A charter boat that I was on fishing for tuna followed a trawler and waited for his nets to come up,and when they did the ocean was filled with dead whiting miles of these fish were floating on the water. Can I go on a party boat and catch a whiting NO they are none existant why D.E.C.Will my son or his sons or daughters have the simple pleasure of going on a party boat to spend a day fishing NO because they will be non existant.

  2. ed kistner Says:

Totally crazy. Our new liberal leaders are always spouting off about peoples jobs, I wonder if they even care about Bait and tackle stores, Party boat crews, Marinas, etc… Besides none of this will do any good anyway.

  3. Chuck Says:

It’s terrible…. especially knowing that the head of the DEC, Grannis, went AGAINST the Fluke sub-committee AND MRAC. Two groups that represent the recreational community’s best interests. Of each of these two groups there was ONE person that supported the regs that the DEC imposed… everyone else in those two groups DID NOT WANT what we got!!

Typical NYS… our tax dollars hard at work…. what a JOKE!

  4. Kristopher Says:

how come the DEC does not stop the trawlers comming from other states? They drop there nets in our waters raking up not only our fish but destroying the ocean and bay bottoms so that there is no plant life and no fish. How much harm do they think that the recreational fisherman is doing? How come there are not tougher regulations on winter flounder? i used to fish for these fish all the time when i was a kid and came home with plenty. now i do not ever waste my time because they are almost all gone in our waters yet there is a bag limit of 10?

  5. neil winograd Says:

What a joke?I take this as an insult !I fish out of sheepshead bay.We don’t see that many big fluke out here. There will be a lot of day’s on the party boats with out a pool fluke!Ridiculous!Back to blue fishing for me…Been a while anyway

  6. wm hammell Says:

bluefishing for me to.i feel sorry for you party boat capt. well good luck your going to need it

  7. bass49 Says:

i guess if i want to fish,i will just move to another state. ny sucks anyway

  8. Michael Bunker Says:

You cannot have it both ways. Unfortunately for commercial fishermen - the needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few. The amount of dollars spent by recreational fishermen FAR outweigh the dollars associated with commercial fishing. Commercial guys say “well - what are you going to eat if we dont supply the fish”? CHICKEN for one. Commercial fishing is going the way of the dinosaur. Plentiful fish in the sea and the billions of $’s associated with recreational fishing far outweigh a few thousand commercial fishing jobs. Unless poorly managed commercial fishing ends - all of these guys are going to be jobless regardless. As of now - I would have a 60 month BAN on all commercial fishing (pay the guys some sort of long term unemployment while this is going on), keep the recreational limits low - let the stocks recover - and then go in with a NEW well thought out plan that works as a long term sustainable business.

  9. Bill` Says:

The recreational fisherman suffer for what the larger, commercial corporations have done to our fishery. Through these regulations, and i’m sure even stricter future regulations the fishery will only suffer even more while certain groups gain full control over all regulations as well as the legal means to enforce. party boats, charter boats and recreational fisherman should be left alone already!

  10. Luke Says:

It’s nice to see people sharing the same opinions as myself. Hopefully we can get these bulls^*t regulations reversed somehow.

I hope all of you have taken the time like myself and other local anglers to copy the letters from one of the other posts on here to mail to politicians and make them aware of this. Something has to be done!

  11. Ryan Says:

This is completely rediculous. I fished every weekend off of montauk last season and with the new regs will prob go half thats insane. We definitely have to do something about this. The bag limit being so low most people are not going to pay for a full day and come home with two fish. I was satisfied with 4 but 2 is just not enough.

  12. david michaels Says:

last year we caught 50 to 75 fluke a trip, with many in the 17″ plus range.most days went home with 1 to 2 keepers!how many of them survived?sadly enough, not without the appropriate precautions, some were foul hooked!is it the limit or the size?i wish i had the answer.i can say that I DONT BELIEVE that 21″ will help in the long run!what are our brothers in nj and ct putting in their ice boxes at the end of the day?

  13. STEVE1103 Says:

If your fishing for food, guess your out of luck, keepers are going to be few and far between, looks like I will be going to the fish market a lot more now, thats if I can aford it! I guess you just can’t win.

  14. Peter Says:

The regular person does not matter. All the fish belong to the commercial fishermen. Recreational fishers are not entitled to any. The commercial trawlers have the nets to take them all and they do. They are not stopped. They catch small fish and big fish. Just look at the filets in the stores. Some of them obviously come from very small fish. The recreational fisherman must forget fishing. Maybe we should learn to raise chickens.

  15. Neil Johnson Says:

Does anyone out there realize why the commercial guys are doing what they are doing? Where did you buy fish ten years ago? At a Fishmonger, now where do you buy fish? Every Supermarket has a fishcounter where a whole counter full of fish lay until they are thrown away at the end of the week because not enough was sold to the public that demanded this counter be there. How many tons of fish must go in the garbage every week.
if you have to buy fish buy it at a fish store not the supermarket, let the store owners close these counters down so the commercial guys will need to cut down their haul every day and leave some for the recreational fisherman.

  16. ED EDWARDS Says:

UNFORTUNATELY THE RULES ARE NOT FAIR FOR ALL.WHY DOES NEW YORK GET THE SHAFT WHEN NEW JERSEY AND CONN HAVE DIFFERENT RULES ALLOWING THEM TO CATCH MORE FISH?

  17. ED GLOWACKI Says:

Used to fish for fluke when I was a kid and into my teens . Gave up back in the early 90’s when finding a keeper back then was hard . Switched over to Blues ,not as good on the table but brought some home for freezer just the same !! Went fishing in Jersey last week where the size is 18 ” w/ a bag limit of 6 . Total fluke in the cooler = 1 . Just to show that 21″ is totally out the question and only 2 for the day is rediculous ,I won’t be shelling out $65 for a day to only come home w/ the impossible of 2 21″ fish !! New York Party Boats are finished .I spent all my early years on City Island and then SheepsHead Bay .The next time I go there rest assured it won’t be for Fluke !!!!!
