Long Island Striped Bass Fishing Reports – 7-29-09

July 29th, 2009

If you have not caught the tone from our previous striped bass reports, let us reiterate… blah. The dog days of summer are in full swing and stripers are feeling it too.

We received a report today from the back bays of a striper being caught on plugs. It was a decent sized fish at 25 – 27 inches. Other than that, nothing much has been happeing in the way of striped bass.

If you are up to the challange, fishing in the dark and around the high water will likely have the best results. Clam chumming by any of the bridges is your best bet if you are not going plugging. We have heard rumors of a few fish west of Debs Inlet in The Rockaways on schools of bunker but nothing direct. If you are holding out on us, the suspense is killing us and the rest of Long Island anglers.

I’m an avid spear fisherman and have seen little to no stripers. Plenty of big blacks, lots of bait, but no keeper bass.
