Bay Bottoms = Good; Ocean Bottoms = Not as Good – Long Island Bottom Fishing Report – 9-9-09
September 9th, 2009The reports from the bay and ocean bottoms have been indicating that the action is getting better. Fishing the bottoms will yield porgy, sea bass and triggerfish in most cases in the bay and mostly porgies and sea bass for the ocean. Find out what bait they are biting on and more by reading the rest of this report.
Bay Fishing: If you are looking for porgies, sea bass or triggerfish, than this report is for you. Any bay fishing near the local bridges including all 3 Wantagh Parkway Bridges, The Big M and Loop Parkway Bridges are all showing signs of good activity. Some of the deeper holes along the South Shore are also fishing well. Clam chumming along the bottom with sand worms and blood worms along with clams on a size 2 or 4 hook and a hi-lo rig is your best bet.
Generally, this is primarily an action type fishery but there have been a few keepers for the table being caught. Thanks to those who have contributed to our reports.
Ocean Bottom Fishing: Not much to report for the ocean bottoms but by the sounds of the reports received, the fishing is okay. If you able to get out, hit the Hempstead, McAllister and Atlantic Beach Reefs for your best chances. These reefs have been the top producers. You’ll mostly find sea bass and porgies making up the catches.
