Fluke Reports Prove Fishing Remains Steady on Long Island’s South Shore

July 20th, 2009

July 20, 2009 – Another week passes and the fluke reports are still proving the action is there. Whether you hit the bay or the ocean, the fishing is still good. Read on to get the lateest fluke fishing report.

The typical hot spots for the fluke are still producing. Swift Creek, Goose Creek and Haunts Creek as well as The Big M and Fundy Bridges are your best bets. Your key to success is using bait rigs or bucktail teaser combos. If you can, try to get some live snappers and live line them for your best chances to get the biggest fluke. Although they are still small, they are catchable.

The ocean is still doing well as we received several reports last week and this past weekend. Fish in 30 feet to 70 feet of water either south or southwest of Jones Inlet, depending on the day. The keeper to short ratio is not the greatest but more success is to be had in the bays. We received a report on Friday, July 17th from Lou Costa who had an 8 lb 3 oz fluke from Jones Inlet. He was fluking on bunker chunks. Kudos to Lou!
