Fluke Fishing Reports – Long Island, NY – 6/9/09

June 9th, 2009

The fluke fishing has remained consistant along the South Shore of Long Island and in the bays. As reported last week, the hot spots remain in the Swift, Haunts and Broad Creeks as well as the Merrick Bay. Additional reports have come in from Rowboat Alley. The key is to fish… the channel edges if possible using bucktail and teaser rigs and the “irresitable fluke jigging rig” which is a custom hand tied rig made locally. If you can, keep the tackle light like a spinning rod with 10 or 12lb test line and try tipping the jigs with spearing or Berkley Gulp. Overall, there are a bunch of shorts but there are some keepers to be had.

Fluke fishing in the ocean has increased as well this past week. Much of the action was reported by the J1 Buoy with plenty of action but no keepers. There were some nice fluke caught up to 6 lbs south of the inlet in approximately 50′ of water.
