Fluke Fishing Report 7-27

July 27th, 2010

The Fluke Fishing in the bay is still consistent with plenty of fish but few keepers; although this is a disappointment to some it is a joy to others providing consistent action for all. The Fluke are literally spread throughout the bay with the usual hotspots such as Reynolds Channel, Fundy and Merrick Bays, Broad Creek and the Four Corners all holding fish. There does seem to be a pattern of keepers being caught around structure such as the numerous bridges in the area, which is a typical “summer pattern.” Try catching snappers, which are still small, and fish them live on the bottom for a shot at a better Fluke.

In the ocean the Fluking is good as well with plenty of action from the JI Bouy out including the local reefs such as The Hempstead, Macalister and Atlantic Beach. However there is more consistent keeper action starting at Cholera Bank and south and east or there out to about 90 feet. The usual techniques are working; whole squid, Peruvian smelts and bucktail teaser rigs…the HOT deal is still Berkely GULP on a jighead or bucktail fished on the bottom. Seriously this stuff is going to make bait OBSOLETE. The big sellers are 4″ Swimming Mullets and Belly Strips.
