Flounder Fishing Report 4/7/10

April 7th, 2010

Well after what seemed like and endless winter the fishing season is finally here!!! Flounder fishing opened April 1st and closes May 30th ( so get out there! ), we are allowed to keep a whopping 2 fish with a minimum length of 12 inches. Surprisingly enough there have been some flounder caught locally as well as the surrounding areas. This time of the year you want to concentrate your efforts on the north side of the bay; areas like Wantagh Park, Seaford Town Dock, Burns Park and Bellmore Creek. Mussels, blood or sandworms are the preferred baits and fishing directly on the bottom, with high-outgoing the best tide.

If you are fishing from a boat the mouths of most major creeks are as good a place as any, concentrating your efforts in 6 -10 feet of water, if anchored chum will get you better results. A tip that i have had success with this time of year is to drift in these creeks when possible (no wind). The goal is to catch whatever is under your boat as there just aren’t that many flounder around anymore.

The shop is fully stocked and ready to go, so stop by and say hello! AND REMEMBER this year everyone needs a marine fishing permit, we do not issue them, locally you can get them at:

T&T Gunnery, 3778 Merrick Road, Seaford, NY  11783 or any Town Hall in our area. They are also available online! If you have any questions do not hesitate to give us a call or shoot us an e mail!
