Boy, I'm sure for many of us, the day can't come soon enough for the kiddies to go back to school.

Nice report. I am going to have to hit some of the locations you mentioned.

Hi Ted... thanks for the "Northern" report!! We're still in our summer doldrums down here but we're anxiously waiting for our fall run to start. We can usually gauge our fall on how you guys do up there, so keep us posted!

Sorry to hear your season ends so early up there, depending on the weather we can see fish along the beaches here till almost Christmas!!

Good luck!!!

Things are just starting to pick up in Southern Maine and New Hampshire. The weather is early fall like, and slowly fishing is becoming more consistent.
It has been a 'hunt and peck' summer here too!

I'm hoping Sept and October are great -- by mid Oct its usually close to all over, whereas I've taken good fish on Long Island in early Dec.

i cannot catch any stripers. ive been trying soo hard. everything from chumming slicks. to many lines out, late at night and early in the morning. i need some tips for my first striper catch. Ive been killen blues at the bridges around 6- 630 every night on diamond jigs or buck tails. These fish are only fun to an extent. i would like to land a nice striper before seasons out. any ideas or tips, where to go, what to use, what time ?

thanks mike

<em>Mike,

For starters, this isn't exactly the best time of year to try and catch a Bass in this bay. However, Clam Chumming is probably one of the easiest and most effective way to catch them around here. We posted a <a href="http://www.causewaybaitandtackle.com/fishing-blog/how-to-fishing-articles/basic-clam-chumming/" rel="nofollow">"How To" about Clam Chumming</a> this bay, a while back and should help you get started. Stop in the store sometime and we would be glad to help you get going.

I happen to be a fan of the Meadowbrook Draw Bridge as well as Democrat Point and Gilgo Beach. I've hooked a few large stripers with my brother during the late night early morning hours using lures and live bait. The surf is always fun because you are at the beach. I try to take advantage of our beaches as much as possible.

I am always open for additional idea's and locations. What else is out there?

Hey Laeeq.... Thanks for the report! Glad to hear you caught a keeper!!! With the 20.5" size limit those are hard to come by these days, especially fishing from shore.

Glad we could help and nice call on a Bluefish strip bait... it pays to try different things!!

Nice fluke! Just did some fluke fishing on Wednesday the 23rd and didnt catch much. We went off a boat at Captree. We stayed around Democrat Point and fished both east and west of the Robert Moses Bridge. The 1 keeper on the whole boat was 20 1/2" and about 40-50 smaller ones were caught. The keeper was caught on the east side approximately 40-50 yards from the bridge. Some small blues and a king fish were hooked as well. There were about 10-13 people fishing and we used spearing and squid strips.

Went to Jones beach first time. On my way stopped at local fish and chip shop. Bought a baby blue fish for bait. Then next stopped was the Causeway Bait and Tackle shop to pick up some bait and information regarding the Jones beach fishing areas. Gentleman at bait shop asked me some questions and then gave me a pack of frozen fish (I dont remember their name now). I asked where should I go for the fish. He advised me to go to Pier 10.

Started with the 5 oz sinker with 40lb mono. Lot of boats on the bay. People were catching a lot of sea robins and some of them catching small flukes. Eventually after tired of putting on those small bait fish, I put on the chunk of baby blue fish. The meat of this fish was very tough and stayed for long time on the hook. Moments later I felt a bite and pulled a 21 1/2 inch gorgeous fluke out of the water. My first fish from the ocean. Had no measuring tape but gentleman next to me measured and told me that I can keep this fish. Happy fishing to everyone!

Thanks for the report Lou, however we have a few customers that are catching a few fish down that way. Sounds like it's mostly on bait though, clams and fresh bunker. Wait till the fall and go plugging around all those jetties, that can be great in October and into November!

Yes... you can fish with any "Natural" bait fish except live Trout and Largemouth Bass. There may be more to this but you would have to get the exact details from NYS DEC. Just do a Google search on "NYS Freshwater Fishing Regulations" and you'll see it. It's like reading War and Peace but that's where it would be spelled out.

However, you can use live Perch, live panfish like Bluegills and Crappie's, Golden Shiners and any "natural" minnows.

Good Luck!
