Freshwater Fishing Report – 4-8-09

April 8th, 2009

Even though the local ponds have been stocked TWICE, the trout fishing has been quite slow. We had one report from Twin Lakes yesterday… Don Heller fished from 6:45 am to around noon…. with ONE hit. He didn’t catch a single fish. A similar report came from Joe, who works here at the shop, from Massapequa Resevoir who also fished for a few hours yesterday morning. NOT ONE BITE!

Very unusual for that trout fishing, those fish usually bite as soon as they’re stocked!

Some people have been picking away at the panfish though, especially down the road at Mill Pond. Sounds like the Northern side of the pond has been pretty relaible for those using Waxworms and Nightcrawlers.

Not much going on other than that. If you’ve been out and have a report for us… LET US KNOW, good or bad!

Good Luck!

Long Island Trout Stocking Report – THEY ARE IN!

March 24th, 2009

The Trout are in the Twin Lakes and should be in Massapequa Reservoir shortly!

We just had a customer call from North Twin Lake, here in Wantagh, who watched the truck put them in the pond! These fish will usually bite IMMEDIATELY and the first ferw days they’re in the lake are usually insane.

Freshwater Fishing Report – 2-19-09

February 19th, 2009

Looking for something to do in the middle of winter? Try the freshwater!

The most action right now seems to be at Bubbles Falls, on Sunrise Highway in Oakdale across from Connetquot River State Park. Apparently, the park has RELEASED around 4000 trout from the facility and naturally they end up in the spillway known as Bubbles Falls. From what we’ve been hearing the Trout have been ON THE FEED… Read the rest of this entry »

Long Island Fresh Water Fishing Update

April 9th, 2008

Considering that the fishing in the salt water hasn’t really started yet, the lakes and ponds have been producing some action for those who try. New York State has stocked a bunch of local ponds with Trout and the water is warming enough to catch some panfish and other types of fish as well. For the Trout, waxworms and nightcrawlers seem to be the better baits and if you wanted to cast with lures…. ANYTHING GOLD is the deal. Gold Kastmasters, Phoebe Spoons and Mepps have been the hot lures for the trout!

On a side note… we have MANY customers who love to use Killies in the fresh water and just to remind everyone… IT IS ILLEGAL!! The DEC has been patrolling the local ponds and enforcing this now, so beware!
