Codfishing in Montauk right now is RED HOT; fish are being caught on either bait or jigs. If you can bring two rods one rigged for bait and on rigged for jigging. For the bait rig, I prefer a single hook about belt high with enough lead to tend bottom, which will vary form day to day. On the jigging rod I’ll fish a Hammered Diamond or Vike Jig rigged with a dropper loop 12 to 16 inches from the jig for a teaser. Teasers can include pink, white, red, or chartreuse curly tail grubs as well as tied mylar and bucktail flies in blue flash, pink, and green. Don’t hesitate to try different colors and types of teasers…you never know when you may have the HOT color in you tackle bag and not know it.
On the local cod scene out of Jones and Fire Island, there seems to be enough fish around to make it worthwhile! The AB reef and Buoy 4 areas seem to be holding some fish as well as the 100 to 120 ft. wrecks.
As usual weather dictates this time of the year, any weather out of the South or East will effect the fishing negatively, especially if an ocean swell is created. Ideally winds from the West, North, and Northwest will provide better fishing conditions. We are fully stocked with all your Codfishing needs and can provide a wealth of info, so either come by and say hello or shoot us an e-mail.

Today is the last day of striped bass season. We have not heard too much in that area lately, but there still might be a few schoolies around. My recommendations are Gilgo, Tobay or West End 2 with A17’s or some other similar tin. Read the rest of this entry »
Some of the Causeway crew fished on the Rosie out of Montauk on Monday and Tuesday, 12/7 and 12/8. On Monday, we fished for cod on the first drop, but the “endangered” dogs were ravenous, and chased us off the piece in short order. We spent the rest of the day at…. Read the rest of this entry »
The crew of the “Keri Lee” reported seeing gannets and breaking bass west of Jones Inlet off the Pink hotel. They were on their way to 17 for a day of togging. Check back tomorrow and see how they made out.

Two beautiful white perch picked from the local ponds this week by Steve.
Steve was fishing the local ponds this week and reeled in 7 beautiful white perch. Steve is a regular customer and was using nitecrawlers as bait and left the fish biting. Nice job Steve!
A regular customer dropped in to let us know that he had good fishing for small stripers this morning at West End 2. The fish were taken on J-9 tins and A17 jigs with green tube. He added that this had been pretty steady for the entire week.
Not a whole lot to report but of the blackfish that seemed to bite, the better activity was during the latter hours of this past Saturday and Sunday. Late in the game on Sunday we weighed in a 10 pound, 10 ounce blackfish for Richie Keough and a 10 pound, 12 ouncer for shop regular “Doc K.” Both fish were brought in live and were caught west of Jones Inlet on green crabs.
The recent striped bass activity had set up some great expectation for Long Island anglers but the fish God’s did not seem to feel the same way. We received various reports from Jones Inlet and Fire Island as well as from the charter boats. Read the rest of the report now. Read the rest of this entry »
