Bottom Fishing Reports – Long Island South Shore – 7-29-09
July 29th, 2009It’s been a while since we’ve heard activity from the oceans bottoms, other than fluking. If you are board from looking for striped bass to jump on your line, try throwing some weigh on that hook and hit the bottoms as there are porgies and sea bass all over.
If there has been any consistant fishing outside of fluke fishing, the sea bass and porgy fishing has been active. Whether you go out during the day or at night, the action is there. Find that 40 – 60 feet of water depth on any bottom and you won’t be disappointed. Fish the wrecks such as Stone Barge, Pipe Barge or the McAllister area. Additional success has been seen fishing the Cholera Reef, Rockaway Reef and Hempstead Reef. The magic bait is clams.
These have been the hot spots for bottom fishing. The sea bass and porgies don’t seem to be picky about the time of day they are hitting. Finding any bottom should keep you busy.
