Porgies, Triggerfish, Kings & Sea Bass… Bottoms Up in the Bay!

August 31st, 2009

With the wicked weather and effects from passing Hurricane Bill and Tropical Depression Danny, fishing has been rather quiet. With these two annoyances on their way, we hope to get back to the good fishing. If you are looking for the action, the bottom is the way to go.

The action has been limited but a sure bet has been fishing the bottoms. Porgies are making up most of the cach. You’ll likely find some triggerfish, kings and sea bass on the line too. Clam chumming is the way to go says Rob S. of Bellmore, NY. Chumming with sandworms, clams or squid on the hook and you’ll do well. He also recommends using small hooks, either size 4 or 6. Since you won’t be catching many keepers, the idea to this fishing is action. This will be a blast, especially for the kids.

One last note. If you are fishing the inlets, head out during the outgoing tides and use eels. With the weather change fast approaching, this should keep you fishing consistantly.
