If you haven’t… you NEED TO!

With no doubt, this stuff was the hottest item in the store this past season and we were sold it faster than we could get in stock. The most popular application in our area was for Fluke fishing, but people used it for just about everything… Bass, Blues, Seabass, Porgies, Cod and even for Blackfish.

Berkley Gulp! and the Gulp Alive! products are different than the original, first generation, Berkley Power Bait. The original Power Bait was basically plastic baits impregnated with scent and the Gulp! products are made from biodegradable, all natural, material.

Some of the more popular ways people used it here in the Northeast were for Fluke, rigged on Bucktail Jigs, Ball Jigs and on Teaser hooks and pretty much the same for the Bass and Bluefish, basically as trailers or teasers. However, for the Seabass and porgies it sounds like the more popular baits were the strip baits, the 3″ squid and even cut pieces of the clams. With the tremendous increase in use, fishermen have been using it a million different ways… all with much success.

This stuff is amazing, did you ever think you could go fishing without fresh bait? Now you can, and the best part is that it doesn’t need to be refrigerated or frozen. They come in small zip lock style bags or in pint buckets that can be re-sealed and left in a tackle box or on the boat. Even if you still want to use fresh bait, it’s great to keep a few packs on the boat just in case you can’t get to the shop for bait.

A true story about this stuff… Chris, from the shop, took a couple of his young nephews Fluke fishing one day last season. He decided to use nothing but Gulp!… NO BAIT AT ALL. Considering that the boys are young, he used a Hi-Low style rig with a sinker on the bottom and 4″ white and chartreuse Swimming Mullet’s on each hook. They CRUSHED the Fluke. To top it off, there was no worry about the boys throwing the bait to the seagulls, and no changing bait every three minutes. This stuff is a lot tougher on the hooks than you would think.

One more story… I stuck a few packs of the 4″ Swimming Mullet’s and a few packs of the Sand Eels in my bag in the beginning of the season. On a whim one day I decided to take my wife and my 4 year old son Fluke fishing in Moriches but we didn’t have the whole day… just a few hours. I didn’t have time to get to the shop for Spearing so we went with nothing but Spro Bucktails, some Teasers and my packs of Gulp!. What a day we had… I lost count of how many fish we caught and my wife ended up putting 2 real good ones in the cooler! Again… NO BAIT… Just GULP!. Below is a picture of my wife with the two fish I mentioned.

You have to try it… it works!
