We are almost through with the crazy weather of the month of October. While the sometimes nasty weather conditions made it difficult for some anglers to fish exactly where they wanted to on a given tide or day, those who chose plan “B” instead of bailing out were often rewarded. “Ziggy” Sokolowski caught this beast of a bass on the night of 10/25/09 at the Jones Inlet using live eel. This monster weighed in at 43 lbs, 13 oz. Good catch “Ziggy!”
The striped bass action has been quite slow as of late. The stipers have been very slow on the West Bar and in the bays. Any luck being had is on clams, bunker and eels. Unfortunately, there has been nothing great to report.
Bluefish
The bluefish action has also slowed to a crawl. We have had some reports of blues in the bay across from the construction dock. The reports also indicate that the action is best in the mornings at first light. Fish some 007’s and you should pick up some here and there.
The blackfish action has been very good toward the west in the bays and by the bridges. With the sea bass and porgy seasons closed, blackfishing is the only bottom fishing in town.
