Flounder fishing in our area is as we expected… generally speaking… if you catch one, you had a good day! However there are a few people who out their time in and manage to put a few in the box. Read the rest of this entry »
Some better news on the North shore this weekend! Little Neck Bay has been consistent for schoolies, using small lures, sandworms and even fresh bunker. This is typically one of the better places to fish early in the season!
Wish we had some better news, but it’s still pretty quiet around here. With the nice weather this past weekend we had many customers trying for the Bass but most reports were the same… nada. Read the rest of this entry »
Even though the local ponds have been stocked TWICE, the trout fishing has been quite slow. We had one report from Twin Lakes yesterday… Don Heller fished from 6:45 am to around noon…. with ONE hit. He didn’t catch a single fish. A similar report came from Joe, who works here at the shop, from Massapequa Resevoir who also fished for a few hours yesterday morning. NOT ONE BITE!
Very unusual for that trout fishing, those fish usually bite as soon as they’re stocked!
Some people have been picking away at the panfish though, especially down the road at Mill Pond. Sounds like the Northern side of the pond has been pretty relaible for those using Waxworms and Nightcrawlers.
Not much going on other than that. If you’ve been out and have a report for us… LET US KNOW, good or bad!
Good news folks…. we heard some pretty encouraging things the past few days! For starters, the Bunker are starting to filter in to the bays, especially to the west in areas like Little Neck Bay and Jamaica Bay and Raritan Bay. Read the rest of this entry »
SO… in addition to the REDICULOUS Fluke regulations and the up-coming Saltwater Fishing License… there are legislators on Long Island (specifically Assemblyman Steve Englebright of the 4th District Assebly in Suffolk County) who are supporting a bill in Albany for MARINE PROTECTED AREAS (MPA’s) …. aka NO FISHING ZONES!!!
For those of you that may not have known, Captain Keith Stock of the Capt. Lou Fleet in Freeport, passed away. He was 31 years old and passed away on HIS HONEYMOON!!
Captain Keith was a good customer of ours and we were shocked to hear of his passing. His fellow captains and crew members from many Freeport based boats have arranged a Memorial Fund Raiser, for his wife, aboard the Freeport based, 160′ Nautical Empress cruise boat.
Reported to us yesterday, Friday, from Bob Gabriel…
Bob fished Milburn Creek in Baldwin at dead low tide. Using Bloodworms and chumming with mussels he managed 4 nice keeper Flounder! This has been about the best report we’ve had so far! Way to go Bob!!
The fish he kept were 2 – 12”, 1 – 13” and 1 – 14”… That should make for a nice dinner!!!
Keep the reports coming folks, even if you go fishing and don’t catch ANYTHING, we would still like to hear it!
